How to apply and obtain NRIC?: Procedure, Documents required

What is NRIC?

The document’s NRIC number is a one-of-a-kind alpha-numeric serial number. Singaporeans and permanent residents in Singapore utilize a National Registration Identification Card, or NRIC, as their identity document. The document’s NRIC number is a one-of-a-kind alpha-numeric serial number.

Why it is required for Singaporeans?

Only Singaporeans are eligible to apply for the Singapore Identity Card (IC). When Singapore citizens and permanent residents attain the age of 15, they are required to register for an Identity Card (IC) (before their 16th birthday).

Usage of NRIC?

  • An NRIC number is required to participate in many online votes, sweepstakes, freebies, lucky draws, and account registrations on Singaporean websites.
  • Game account registrations, such as AsiaSoft MapleStory and Audition;
  • online club memberships, such as NikonClub, ActiveSG, Shaw, Golden Village, and others.

Where and How to register?

Register for 15-year old

  1. Baptism or a certificate from a religious organization (if you want to include a religious name)
  2. Deed poll with approval from both parents (and legal guardian(s), if appropriate) for a name change
  3. A recent passport-sized digital color photograph taken within the last three months is required

Biometrics enrolment is necessary for addition to the online registration. Biometrics enrolment will take place at schools on a predetermined day for Singapore citizens and permanent residents who attend government or government-aided schools.

After completing the online application for biometrics enrolment in person at the ICA Building, Singapore citizens and permanent residents who (a) do not attend government or government-aided school; or (b) missed their school registration day will be prompted to book an appointment.

Procedure for registration

Registering by attending government/government-aided schools

  • Two weeks before your biometrics enrolling in school, you will be notified to register for your IC.
  • Before the appointment date specified in the notification, you must register your IC online.
  • Bring your student identification card with you (Ez-Link Card).

Registering for not attending government/government-aided schools:

  • On your 15th birthday, you will receive a notification to register for your IC.
  • After completing your online registration, you will be prompted to schedule a biometrics enrollment session with ICA.
  • Bring your student identification card with you (Ez-Link Card).

Fees:

  • S$10 for Singapore citizens
  • S$50 for Singapore permanent residents.

Processing time:

Following the conclusion of registration, arrangements will be made for the IC to be collected at the schools within a month.

After completing biometric enrolment, the IC can be collected the same day at:

The Operating hours are 8.00 am to 4.30 pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 8.00 am to 12.30 pm on Saturdays.

Registration Identity Card for 30/55-year-olds

If they have not been issued with a replacement IC during the last 10 years, Singapore citizens and permanent residents must re-register for the Identity Card (IC) when they reach the age of 30 (before their 31st birthday) and again when they reach the age of 55 (before their 56th birthday).

Documents required

  4. Marriage certificate

Procedure 

The notice letter will be mailed to eligible Singapore citizens and permanent residents. You must re-register your IC within one year of receiving the notification letter at a reduced charge within one year of receiving the notification letter.

After receiving notification from ICA, log in to our e-Service using your Singpass 2FA to complete the online application form.

Fees

  • S$10 for Singapore citizens
  • S$50 for Singapore permanent residents.

For online application payment can be made :

  • Visa or MasterCard credit/debit card
  • American Express (AMEX) credit card
  • Can also use Internet Direct Debit (DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB, and Standard Chartered Bank Internet Banking accounts in Singapore)
  • PayNow

Processing Time

An IC typically takes three working days to process. During busy times, it may take longer. If your photos (see here for our photo criteria) and/or accompanying document (if applicable) do not fulfill the requirements, your application will be delayed.

You will be contacted by SMS and email once your re-registration has been authorized. Please schedule a time to pick up your IC within three months following approval.
