What is Integrated Shield Plan (IP)?

It is extra coverage for treatment in private hospitals or public / restructured institutions’ Class A/B1 wards Private insurers are in charge of the management. Option to add a co-pay rider that covers up to 95% of your co-insurance and/or deductible, lowering your out-of-pocket payments.

What is the eligibility?

1. This basic health insurance coverage covers all Singapore citizens and permanent residents.
2. Pre-existing conditions are covered for the rest of your life.
3. Covers treatment costs at public hospitals’ Class B2/C wards.
4. Premiums paid through MediSave

What are the benefits/coverage?

An Integrated Shield Plan consists of the following components:

Additional Private Insurance Coverage and  MediShield Life

1. Additional coverage for treatment in private hospitals or public/restructured hospitals’ Class A/B1 wards.

2. Private insurers are in charge of the management of the fund.

3. Option to add a co-pay rider that covers up to 95 percent of your co-insurance and/or deductible, lowering your out-of-pocket expenses.

4. Premiums reimbursable through MediSave, subject to annual restrictions.

5. Rider premiums are only payable in cash.

6. Your Integrated Shield Plan can also be used as medical insurance in the event of an emergency.

Can you use Medisave to pay premiums?

MediSave can be used to pay for an individual’s or their eligible dependents’ health insurance premiums.

MediSave can cover the entire cost of MediShield Life, ElderShield, or CareShield Life. Up to the withdrawal limits, MediSave can also be used to pay for Integrated Shield Plans (IPs) and ElderShield Supplement premiums.

1. Inpatient and Day Surgery at Acute Hospitals: The sum of the daily hospital charge limit and the surgical limit determines the total Medisave claimable for an inpatient or day surgery episode.

2. Outpatient Care: Patients with complicated chronic diseases will be allowed to utilize up to $700 per patient per year beginning January 1, 2021, while other patients will be able to use up to $500 per patient per year for the therapies listed below.

3. Long Term care: General palliative care costs up to S$250 per day, and specialized palliative care costs up to $350 per day.

How to claim Integrated Shield plan (IP)?

  1. The customer’s private insurer will take care of the process to claim their IP plan and make the payment to the hospital on their behalf
  2. If there is any remaining amount, the bill will be covered from Medisave and/or cash.
