Singapore University offers free courses to students who get married or become pregnant

Singapore University for Social Sciences (SUSS) has announced that they will offer free courses to students when they get married or have children during their programme. While it may sound controversial, Singapore is already feeling the pressure of a demographic time-bomb where more adults are having fewer kids and the population is ageing at an alarming rate.

The University extends the offer to both parents of the child and is applicable to both Sinagpore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents.

According to the circular on the University website,

To be eligible, candidates must be:
– a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
– registered his/her marriage on or after the implementation date of the scheme
– registered his/her child’s birth/adoption on or after the implementation date of the scheme
