About St Andrew’s Mission Hospital
In 1913, Dr. Charlotte Ferguson-Davie, wife of the first Bishop of Singapore, had a mission to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of those most neglected in society – women and children. A humble dispensary was set up at Bencoolen Street for this purpose. This marked the start of a long and illustrious journey of the St. Andrews Medical Mission. The humble dispensary grew into the full-fledged St. Andrews Mission Hospital in 1923. It was incorporated under an Act of Parliament: The St. Andrews Mission Hospital Ordinance in 1934. Since its inception, the hospital purposed to serve all regardless of race, religion and socio-economic status.
